      During this course, learn how to diagnose pregnancy, including the  signs and symptoms of pregnancy, diagnostic testing to confirm pregnancy and what test to do when. Risks/symptoms/signs of ectopic pregnancy will be described, as well as how to diagnose ectopic pregnancy and when to make a referral. Initial assessment of pregnancy will also be reviewed, including the components of a comprehensive initial history and workup. Guidelines for prenatal care will be discussed in the context of each trimester. Within each trimester, normal pregnancy changes and early warning signs of complications and problems will be explained. Managing trimester-specific common discomforts and complications will be emphasized. Referral guidelines will be outlined, particularly when a problem or complication is suspected or identified. Patient education and patient/clinician resources will be emphasized throughout this session.

      After completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

      ·         Provide routine prenatal care
      ·         Discuss first trimester, second trimester, third trimester health needs
      ·         Discuss common discomforts and physiologic changes of pregnancy
      ·         Discuss common complications
