      PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

      During this presentation, learn about the epidemiology and etiology of PCOS and the most current understanding of the pathophysiology of this common, complex and potentially serious endocrine disorder. The many endocrine, cardiometabolic and gynecologic complications and sequelae will be described. Symptoms, signs, diagnostic criteria, potentially complex diagnostic testing considerations (essential versus nonessential versus unnecessary), and the expansive differential diagnoses will be outlined. Management guidelines including pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic approaches will be discussed, including the advantages and disadvantages of these various interventions. Fertility and contraceptive considerations (including recommended methods and why) will be explored in the context of the unique problems potentially facing patients with  PCOS.
       

      EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

      After completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

      • Discuss epidemiology, pathophysiology, associated risks and complications
      • List symptoms, signs of PCOS 
      • Explain diagnostic workup
      • Describe "best practice" management approaches including pharmacologic treatments
