      PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

      This 55-minute presentation will discuss the epidemiology of menopause and common symptoms of menopause, focusing on vasomotor symptoms and vulvovaginal atrophy/genitourinary syndrome of menopause. Diagnostic considerations and North American Menopause Society recommended diagnostic testing will be described. Evidence-based pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic management approaches will be explained, including advantages/benefits and disadvantages/risks. Controversies and patient education will be emphasized during this session. Resources for clinicians and patients will be suggested and discussed. All discussion focuses on evidence-based management.
       

      EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

      After completion of this activity, participants should have a better understanding of:

      • The epidemiology of menopause, vasomotor symptoms (VMS) and vulvovaginal atrophy (VVA)
      • The diagnosis of VMS and VVA
      • The treatment of VMS and VVA
      The content in all APEA review courses, CE offerings and clinical resources reflects evidence-based practice.

      This course is taught by Mimi Secor, DNP, FNP-BC, NCMP, FAANP, a nationally certified nurse practitioner with more than 30 years of experience in women's health.
