APEA Welcomes Betty Vicknair


APEA Welcomes Betty Vicknair, APRN, MSN, PNP to our staff. We are excited to have Betty on board to share her knowledge and wisdom with us!

Betty received her Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) degree from Tulane University Medical Center, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in 1977. Her nursing background was in surgical intensive care and pediatrics. Her PNP clinical practice included twenty-seven years with a group of renowned pediatricians in New Orleans, Louisiana until Katrina changed the face of healthcare. For the past eight years, she was an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics at Charity School of Nursing. In January 2014 she joined Advanced Practice Educational Association as a Nurse Practitioner Faculty member.

Betty has presented at the local, regional, and national levels on pediatric and educational topics. In 2010 she was nominated for the Seymour Weiss Excellence in Teaching Award and in 2013 she received the Endowed Professorship Award. She has served on the Executive Board of the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners (LANP) and numerous committees since 2006 and over the past four years has coordinated LANP's Primary Care Conferences which educate nurse practitioners. Betty received her RN Diploma Degree from Mather School of Nursing in New Orleans; her BSN from William Carey College, New Orleans Campus; and her MSN from the University of Phoenix, New Orleans Campus.
