APEA’s First PMHNP Review

Gain Psychiatric Expertise at APEA’s First PMHNP Review

Advanced Practice Education Associates (APEA) is pleased to announce a new review course focused on psychiatric mental health. This event will be held May 20-21, 2017, in metro Nashville, and it has two purposes: to prepare new PMHNPs for the ANCC certification exam in this specialty, and to equip primary care nurse practitioners with advanced assessment and treatment skills in psychiatric mental health.

Two-day and 1-day registration options are available. Students and certification candidates should register for both days of the course to obtain the breadth of review required to be successful on the board certification exam. Day 1 focuses on professional role and policy and introduces foundations for advanced practice. Day 2 focuses on advanced pathophysiology, neurobiology and neuroanatomy; advanced health assessment; advanced pharmacology; and independent practice competencies including psychopharmacology and disorder and symptom management. Day 2 is particularly beneficial for family and adult-gerontology NPs who seek more psychiatric mental health skills.

The presenters for this review course are board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners who are on faculty in PMHNP programs. Sattaria (Tari) S. Dilks, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC, is an associate professor at McNeese State University College of Nursing in Lake Charles, LA. Dawn Vanderhoef, PhD, DNP, PMHNP-BC, FAANP, is academic director of the PMHNP specialty at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in Nashville.
