APEA Introduces Toolkit for Assessing Pediatric Growth & Development

14-Jun-2017

Advanced Practice Education Associates has introduced another education and practice innovation! APEA’s new Building Blocks of Growth: A Color-Coded Guide to Birth Through Age 21 is a toolkit that helps NP students and practicing NPs retain and apply key information about pediatric growth and development.

The Building Blocks of Growth toolkit synthesizes clinical guidelines and authoritative guidance on growth and development from birth through late adolescence. Information contained in the Building Blocks of Growth is evidenced-based and presented in a clearly organized manner. Rather than search multiple sources for key information on pediatric growth and development, nurse practitioners and NP students can refer to APEA’s Building Blocks of Growth for succinct and applicable guidance.

The Building Blocks of Growth are available as two products: the Building Blocks Flash Cards ($29.95) and the Building Blocks Summary Sheets ($24.95). Purchase them together as the Building Blocks Bundle ($49.95). NP students will find the Building Blocks Bundle especially useful for the pediatric portions of their curricula, for clinical rotations, and for clinical practice after graduation. Practicing NPs will appreciate the focus and quick application of the summary sheets.

Flash Cards
The Building Blocks of Growth Flash Cards build and assess knowledge about the milestones of pediatric growth and development. Each flash card is created on colored cardstock corresponding to age and developmental task. For example, yellow cards feature questions about fine motor skills, red cards feature questions about physical development, and pink cards feature questions about newborn and infant reflexes.

More than 150 flash cards (167) are included in the product. Six 3.67 X 4.25-inch cards are printed on each sheet in the flash card pack; they are easily separated along preprinted perforation lines.

Summary Sheets
The Building Blocks of Growth Summary Sheets (8.5 X 11 inches) provide a succinct overview of the information contained on the flash cards. They also serve as a handy point of reference when a nurse practitioner enters an exam room to perform a pediatric assessment. Refer to a Building Blocks of Growth Summary Sheet to review the milestones that should be assessed during that patient visit.

The 10 summary sheets are spiral bound for ease of use, and they are printed on heavy cardstock for durability.

Even Better Together

The Building Blocks of Growth: A Color-Coded Guide to Birth Through Age 21 program was created and developed to meet the essential information needs of primary care nurse practitioners who treat children, adolescents and young adults.

Bundling the two components provides even greater value in practice. Purchase the summary sheets and flash cards together for a bundle price of $49.95.

Evidence-Based
Two important notes about evidence-based support for the content in the Building Blocks of Growth:

• Ninety percent of infants, toddlers, and children achieve the tasks or skills at the age denoted on the summary sheets and flash cards.
• The information on the summary sheets and flash cards reflect the research and review of multiple authorities on growth and development, including the American Academy of Pediatrics Bright Futures program, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Denver II Developmental Screening materials.
